The artist Tomislav Topic, born in Hannover in 1985 and based in Berlin, has developed a distinctive and unmistakable oeuvre over the course of his career. As a solo artist, he has realized numerous installations and murals in public spaces worldwide.
Tomislav Topic’s murals extend beyond the boundaries of painting, demonstrating that his abstract, non-representational language operates with equal strength in both intimate gallery formats and on monumental architectural surfaces. Based on his studies at the University of Applied Science and Art in Hildesheim, his work is informed by both an academic background and an origin in urban art. He articulates a clear artistic position that seeks to transcend these categories, understanding his practice primarily as a direct engagement with space and environment.
He has been a lecturer at the University in Hildesheim and at other educational institutions. Topic is known for his vibrant, site-specific installations, in which he reduces his work to its essential elements: color and form. These become the central and defining components of his practice. Through this focus, his abstract works create universally accessible experiences, allowing viewers to engage with art in an immediate and direct way.
In Topic’s work, the emotive power of color and the structural logic of composition enter into a precise balance, encouraging an expanded perception of space and environment. Whether in painting or installation, his work resonates across cultural contexts and establishes a language that connects diverse audiences through a shared sensory experience.
For more than a decade, Topic’s artistic practice has gained increasing international recognition. His works, installations, and murals have been presented in festivals, exhibitions, and artist residencies in Germany, Switzerland, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Greece, Mauritius, Qatar, Georgia, the USA, and China.
